Character Profile #6: The Elf
Meet my elven character!
Hello, friends, and welcome to my sixth Character Profile, a monthly feature in which you get to learn more about one of my characters. Spoiler alert: I have a LOT of characters. If you’d like to learn more about them, you can click here to read a short story snippet I wrote a few months ago.
Each character profile will consist of three parts:
the mood board — where you get a peek into their character as photos!
the interview — where the character is interviewed and you get to learn more about them.
the writing snippet featuring that character — where you get to see how I incorporate the character into a short scene!
See all of my Character Profiles here.

Introduce yourself!
Hey, everybody! I’m the Elf, and I’m…well, an Elf. I live in a small forest kingdom with my friends and family in the Prince and Cousin’s territory. I’m also a prince!
Can you also describe yourself?
Sure can! I have long blond hair, fawny skin, blue eyes, and a smile that I’m pretty sure is permanent. 😂
What’s it like being a prince?
I think it’s pretty cool – although I don’t really know otherwise. It has some nice perks, like good food and advisors and such, but it’s also really lonely sometimes. And learning how to be the leader of a country is pretty hard!
Yeah, that does sound like a mixed bag. What’s your favorite place to go when you’re feeling stressed?
Honestly, I don’t really have a “favorite place”. My day is always brightened by some quality time with a good friend or someone I really care about.
What’s your favorite color?
Green. It’s the color of my fiancée’s eyes.
What’s your favorite food?
I really like croissants. They’re flaky and buttery and so delicious. I have a good friend who can make amazing croissants!
What’s your weakness?
Because I’m a relatively young almost-ruler, sometimes my humor can come off as me being arrogant or inexperienced. I’ve also been told that I’m a little jumbled and jump from topic to topic quickly.
What’s your strength?
Making people laugh. I love using my humor to make someone feel better about a situation or issue they’re facing. I’d also like to think I’m a good friend!
Who’s in your family?
I consider most of the kingdom my family, but technically speaking, my family is my mother and father (who are the king and queen), my little sister, my fiancée, and my best friend Sylvie*! I haven’t seen my mom and sister for years, though, because they disappeared mysteriously a long time ago.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I’m glad I was interviewed, Addie! Now, I’m going to go eat some cupcakes…Sander out!
#3: The Snippet
Sander and his best friend Sylvie sat on the lower branches of an oak tree, waiting for their families to return from their short trip. It was already dark, and no one was supposed to be this far past the boundary, but being the son of a king had its perks. Plus, there was a guard below them keeping watch, so it wasn’t like they were in any sort of danger.
At least, Sander hoped not.
Sylvie had already exhausted the topic of the Army tryout that had happened that morning, and Sander could tell she was thrilled. The golden “Troop 373” pin gleamed proudly on her new outfit.
He couldn’t resist plucking a few acorns from the branch next to him to drop on Sylvie’s head, and he saw her flinch. Oops. Maybe it wasn’t as quiet as he had hoped.
“So…do you know what your first mission is going to be, Sylv?” Sander said quickly, trying to distract her from the sound of the acorns.
“We don’t get our assignments until the morning, silly,” Sylvie laughed from below him, tossing her long blond hair behind her shoulder. “And I expect it’ll be something easy for my first day.”
Sander smiled. Sylvie didn’t know how accurate that was. His own first briefing had been more of a lecture on appropriate army protocol.
“I mean…I could have persuaded my father to give you something more challenging, but I guess you won’t find out until tomorrow,” Sander teased, picking another group of acorns. He saw Sylvie bite her lip, and he grinned even wider.
“Sander!” Sylvie chastised. “You didn’t!”
“It helps to have a friend in high places, doesn’t it?” Sander said, dropping acorns on her. Most of them bounced off her head or shoulders and fell to the ground, but she caught one and threw it straight toward Sander’s forehead, plocking against it. Both teenagers erupted in laughter. Sylvie was laughing so hard she was crying.
There was silence for a while before Sylvie turned to look at him, a question on her lips. “By the way, how’s Thea?”
Wow. Not the question he’d been expecting.
Sander wasn’t sure exactly how to answer that. Things with Thea had been…complicated. She still lived in the caves near the elven kingdom, and they were still good friends…but Sander couldn’t tell if his feelings had complicated it too much. It was hard to see Thea just as a friend now when Sander wanted her to be so much more.
He fidgeted on the branch, trying to hide his blushing cheeks. “She’s good.”
