How To Find Time To Write When You’re Busy
The best tips for making time to write!
Do you struggle to make time to write when you have a never ending to-do list? Do you want to use your creative energy but can’t seem to find the time to write? I struggle with this too, especially in the school year, but I’ve found ways to change these feelings and actually make time to write!
Here are some of my best tips for writing when you’re busy:
#1: Make it a habit every day.
If I’m being completely honest, the only reason I write every day is because I built in time. I’m the kind of person who could do a million other things before writing and never get to it — and I often do. But I write for 15 minutes at the start of every day, which helps keep me consistent and ready to write more, if I have time. If not, I feel like I’ve at least written something.
#2: Write for small increments of time.
The 25/5 pomodoro timer has worked wonders for me over the past few years. I tend to do well with 25 minutes since that gives me enough time to focus, but it’s also small enough that I don’t zone out. If 25 minutes doesn’t work for you, there are plenty of different variations on the Internet.
#3: Find big chunks of time where you can write.
If you have free time at a specific time every day, like a free period after dinner, you can use that time to write! I tend to write after dinner two or three times a week and almost always on weekends.
#4: Set a small goal.
Sometimes setting tiny goals can help you achieve bigger ones. I try to write a paragraph a day, and I usually write more than that! If you’re struggling to get started, try to write 50 words, then 100, then see where your imagination takes you.
#5: Switch up locations.
If you’re having a hard time concentrating, try moving to a different part of your house. If you’re feeling particularly brave, try going outside or to a local cafe or library.
#6: Be kind to yourself.
Sometimes you’re simply too busy to write every day, and that’s alright. Don’t regret not writing and just try to make time the next day. 🙂

Switching up locations is one of my favorite hacks! One time I wrote in a coffee shop, and oh my word it really is just like the movies (minus the love interest running into me, ofc). But I wrote so much, and there was coffee, too :D
This is super helpful, Addie!🥰
