My April 2026 Round Up
- what I did this month -
Hello, friends, and welcome back to the Kindness Cafe! Spring is officially in full swing, and I can’t believe it’s already the end of April — it’s been a good month with lots to share, so let’s get started!
What I’ve Been Reading Recently:
Act by Kayla Miller
Quick Plot Summary: Olive is back in school after a great summer at a nearby summer camp, and she’s ready to learn. When the election for student council is announced and multiple of Olive’s friends decide to run, Olive is ready to support them. When she realizes there are issues none of the other candidates are covering, Olive decides to run too. But in the efforts to win, her friendships are slowly falling apart. Can Olive stand up for the issues that matter to her and keep her friendships intact?
This series by Kayla Miller has been one of my favorites ever since I picked it up in the library a few years ago. I love Olive’s determination and the variety of friendships displayed in this graphic novel.
Love Overboard by Becky Dean
Quick Plot Summary: Savannah — or Moore the Bore, as she’s known to many of her classmates — is ready for the best summer ever. After she gets back from her parents’ employee Alaskan cruise, she’ll spend the summer with her boyfriend and best friend doing all of the things she loves. That is…until her boyfriend dumps her on the last day of junior year.
Now Savannah is stuck with her mortal enemy, Tanner Woods, on the Alaskan cruise that was supposed to be a break from stress and worry. Reluctantly, Savannah strikes a deal with Tanner: he’ll help her be less boring to get back her boyfriend and she’ll help him pick a college major. The only problem? Savannah might be falling for Tanner instead…
This was a reread, and I loved every second of it. Becky Dean’s books are always an instant “Yes” — they’re funny and relatable with great characters and witty banter. This reread delivered!
What I’ve Been Listening To Recently:
“Comes Around Again” by the Arcadian Wild was a recent release, and I loved it so much! The group’s experience really shines through in this song.
“Crayola Doesn’t Make A Color For Your Eyes” by Kristin Andreassen is a playful, fun song about trying to find the right color to draw a picture of someone you love. The real Crayola names was a great touch!
A Writing Update:
I hit 55,000 words on the second draft of my novel this month and am slowly inching my way through the story again! I just introduced a character I love (you can find out more about her here), and the way she interacts with the other characters is so sweet. I’m having a good time with my story and really enjoying myself.
A Life Update:
This April has been really busy! I’ve listened to lots of music and watched “Little Women: The Musical”, which I thought was a decent retelling (though it took a lot out!). I baked cookies, enjoyed fresh air and bright sunshine, and read a lot of great books!
I’d love to know about your adventures in April down below!
