My February 2025 Round Up
- what I did this month -
Happy February, everyone! This month has been such an incredible whirlwind; I can’t believe it’s almost over. Let’s get into it!
What I’ve Been Reading Recently:
Where We Used To Roam by Jenn Bishop
Quick Book Summary: When Emma starts sixth grade, everything seems perfect. She makes new friends in art class, she’s still having fun with her longtime best friend Becca, and her brother Austin is the quarterback for their high school football team. But when Austin needs to undergo surgery for a football injury and gets addicted to painkillers, and a misunderstanding between Becca changes everything, Emma ends up in Wyoming with some family friends. And then she meets Tyler, who doesn’t know anything about Austin or Becca or what happened back home. But if he finds out, could their relationship blow up too?
This book was so brilliant! It felt so much more impactful than a middle grade book, diving deep into Austin’s drug problem and accurately showing the beauty of Wyoming. It has the kind of overused “misunderstanding with my best friend” trope, but I felt like the author did a good job resolving the issue without making it more trope-y than it needed to be. I’d definitely recommend it!
Roswell Johnson Saves The World! by Chris Colfer
Quick Book Summary: Roswell has been obsessed with aliens his whole life. His father named him after the biggest alien conspiracy ever recorded, so why shouldn’t Roswell believe in them? Still, he can’t believe his eyes when he accidentally gets abducted by two real-life aliens and discovers that Earth is in danger. Teaming up with a group of quirky extraterrestrials, Roswell must save his home from a threat that might be the difference of life or death for millions of people.
This book was hilarious! I actually double-taked for a minute, because Chris Colfer is one of the best fantasy writers I have ever read, and his genre-hopping was not something I expected. Nevertheless, this book was amazing, and I thoroughly enjoyed the humor, grit, and plot of this book. And there’s a sequel coming out this June…so hooray for that!
What I’ve Been Listening To Recently:
I’ve listened to a lot of folk music this month, so I thought I’d include this song, Crossing Muddy Waters, by the band I’m With Her. I’ve heard this song way too many times to count, and it’s amazing!
I have been so obsessed with the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack recently, so I’ve included One Last Shot from the first PITC movie, The Curse of the Black Pearl!
A Writing Update:
Writing has been slow lately. The anthology I’m a part of is currently in the line editing stage, and I’m wrapping up my writing class for the wonderful Narnia book The Horse and His Boy.
Sadly, I haven’t worked much on my book this month, but I have been writing lots of little scenes with my characters for the class. I’ve also been diving deeper into my characters by making mood boards and other creative projects.
A Life Update:
It seems like February took pity on us, because we got a whole bunch of snow! It’s been amazing getting to see it on the ground and sled in it. I’ve been so happy about it!
I’m excited to get back into writing my book in March! I’d love to know how your February is going – pop a comment below!
