My Top 12 Songs of the Year
*headphones activated*
Konnichiwa!
Hello, friends! It’s almost the end of 2024 (already? I can’t believe it…). This year has been a wild ride for me – I’ve been working most of the year on school and setting up my brand, as well as keeping with it. And while I’ve been working through everything on my to-do list, one thing that’s remained constant throughout the whole year has been music.
My Spotify Wrapped came out recently – for anyone who doesn’t know what that is, the music company Spotify keeps track of your song selection throughout the whole year and gives you your top 50 songs at the end of the year, among other fun stats. So, this week, I’m back with my Top 12 Songs of 2024 to share with y’all!
Note: The YouTube links below go mainly to music videos, because the creators of the songs also invest a ton of time and energy in the music video as well as the songs…so I’m including both.
There’s a lot to get into, so let’s get started!
My Top Twelve Songs of 2024:
Luminary by Joel Sunny
Luminary was my top song of the year on Spotify Wrapped. You didn’t hear it from me, but I might have listened to it 212 times? 🤫 The composer, Joel Sunny, says he makes music to “feed our delusions,” and Luminary is no exception. It’s a whimsical violin instrumental that will make you feel like you’re in a fantasy book (and if you love piano versions, check out the piano edit of the song!). The music video is phenomenal.

Eye of the Untold Her by Lindsey Stirling
I’ve been a Lindsey Stirling fan for about a year now, and Eye of the Untold Her reached me at just the right time this year. It’s also instrumental violin music (I might have a niche 👀) that makes you feel like you can do anything! Plus the music video almost brought me to tears the first time I saw it. (Spoiler alert, I almost never cry.)
Liar by The Arcadian Wild
This song was one of my absolute favorites this year, delving deep into the complexes of a person who did something wrong and is suffering the internalized grief of their problem. Cheery, I know. But part of the reason why I adore The Arcadian Wild is the fact that they pack so much into a brilliantly executed song. It’s definitely worth a listen.
Satisfied by Renee Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton)
I’ve mentioned in my Singin’ In The Rain post that I love the musical Hamilton. My favorite character is definitely Angelica Schuyler, so it’s fitting that Satisfied, her solo song (so to speak), is on my Top 12 list for this year. Go check it out!
crooked the road by Mon Rovia
I discovered Mon Rovia in the middle of September of this year, and his folky gentle music drew me in and made me feel like I was home. crooked the road was the perfect vibe for my life at that point, and thus I added it to my top 12 songs!
2 Days Into College by Aimee Carty
This incredible song by new artist Aimee Carty talks about growing up and feeling like you’re always trying to catch up. It resonated with me this year as I’ve navigated new classes, clubs, and responsibilities. I’d recommend it to anyone who feels low or like they never do enough; it will make you feel better and stick in your head for weeks!
It Is What It Is by Jenna Raine
This song is pure happiness from the wonderfully talented singer Jenna Raine. She writes songs filled with hope and cheer, and this one is no exception. Plus the music video is as bright and jaunty as the song. Definitely give it a listen!
The Maze by Janani K. Jha
I first heard of Janani K. Jha on the reality TV show Survivor (she participated in the 45th season!). I’m sad to say Survivor did not do her justice in what an incredible singer and songwriter she is. The Maze is no exception; it’s a gripping song about the Minotaur himself and how no one comes to save him from the Labyrinth. If you love Greek mythology, you will love Janani!
You’re On Your Own, Kid by Taylor Swift
I don’t listen to TS very often, but when I do, it’s usually to Midnights or Red, so I thought I’d pop one of her songs in here. You’re On Your Own, Kid is like 2 Days Into College in the fact that it will make you feel less alone. And Taylor’s lyrics are stellar, as always!
glow in the dark by Vian Izak and Ekaterina Shelehova
I love Vian Izak’s music. It’s comforting like a hug, and glow in the dark is no exception. Every lyric was crafted with care to make a beautiful, cohesive song. Ekaterina Shelehova joins him in this song, and her music is also amazing, so make sure to give both a listen!
Stardew Forest by Alisha Liston
I discovered Alisha this year, and the only word to describe her music is whimsical. Each song feels like a playdate in the woods with your stuffed animals, wondering what the rustling in the trees is. And her music video is beautiful!
Big Sky, MT by The Arcadian Wild
This Arcadian Wild song weaves together themes of community and family and how united we are if we all work together. The music video is amazing, so make sure to watch it and share your thoughts below!
I also wanted to mention my top artist of the year! His name is Jorge Rivera-Herrans, and if you’ve ever heard of EPIC the Musical, he’s a part of! EPIC the Musical is a retelling of the Odyssey. If you’re looking for something new to listen to, I’d recommend starting here! Make sure to listen to it in order!
I’d love to know your favorite songs of 2024 in the comments below. I hope you have a wonderful day!
