Hello, and welcome to The Kindness Cafe! My name is Addie, and I’m a teenage writer who also runs this establishment.
Ever since I was five, I’ve had a voracious appetite for books.
To be clear, I never actually tried to eat them. But I devoured the stories in every book I could get my hands on, and most of those stories have stayed in my head – and heart – to this day. Some of my favorites include Anne of Green Gables, The Hobbit, and The Chronicles of Narnia.
It’s probably no surprise that, one day, when I was thirteen, a story idea of my own popped into my head. Inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia, my narrative tells the tale of a young boy and his cousin rushing to save relatives trapped by an evil villain. Like Anne of Green Gables, my characters have kindness and wittiness and grit. And like The Hobbit, the story’s a thrilling adventure – about how family (related by blood or not) can make someone whole.
I finished my first draft of that book in April, and I’m currently working on the second draft (as well as the second book in the series)! My goal is to get the first book published in the next ten years and share my story with the world.
Meanwhile, I’m pouring my words into this Substack, The Kindness Cafe, because I believe in sharing ideas and having cozy conversations over tea. I believe in the power of words and how they can change someone’s life. Five-year-old me could have never imagined I’d someday be writing stories.
