Hello, friends! I’m so excited to discuss what I did in March – this month truly was the best whirlwind. Let’s get started!
What I’ve Been Reading Recently:
Finn and Ezra’s Bar Mitzvah Time Loop by Joshua S. Levy
Quick Book Summary: Ezra’s first bar mitzvah is awful. His dad and older sister can’t get along, his little sister is hiding under one of the tables with her legos, and Ezra’s seriously wondering why he ever agreed to a bar mitzvah in the first place. But at 1:36 pm on the Sunday of one of the worst weekends of his life, time stops – and starts again. And Ezra keeps living the weekend of his bar mitzvah…over and over and over. When he meets Finn, who’s also stuck in the time loop, both boys must figure out a way to get out of the time loop…before they’re stuck forever.
I adored this book! This was such a balance between Jewish culture and sci-fi twists, but it all gelled together to create the perfect ending that seemed to come full circle. I’d recommend it for any tween or teen that loves mystery, sci-fi, and contemporary fiction.
The Copernicus Legacy: The Forbidden Stone (Book 1) by Tony Abbott
Quick Book Summary: When Wade Kaplan finds a strangely coded message from his Uncle Henry, he knows there’s something his uncle is keeping hidden – something that his uncle wants him to find. But when Henry dies shortly after under suspicious circumstances, Wade resolves to crack the code. Along with his father and three friends, Wade goes on a secret treasure hunt that takes him to Europe, all while being chased by an evil organization that will stop at nothing to find the secret Wade is so determined to solve for himself.
This book was really good! I enjoyed the multiple points of view and how they traveled to Europe in a way that seemed natural and made sense with the mystery they were solving. I’d recommend this book to 13+ due to some attack scenes and scary people.
What I’ve Been Listening To Recently:
I’ve listened to a few of Paris Paloma’s songs, and her ethereal voice makes each song so haunting! This song, “The Rider” (from The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim), was beautiful, so I decided to share it with you.
I love sea shanties, so I’ve been listening to a lot of them right now. One in particular is this cover of “My Jolly Sailor Bold” by Rachel Hardy and Colm McGuinness. I love the balance of soprano and bass that both artists bring!
A Writing Update:
After working on assignments for my writing class for the past few months, I’m starting to get back to the second draft of my book!
I’ve started revising my novel, which is hard but so worth it. Since my writing style has changed so much since my first draft, I’ve begun rewriting scenes and adding details to make my story stronger. My first chapters were pretty basic, and now I know the direction the story is going to go, I can go back and edit them thoroughly. It might be a long road, but I’m super excited to flesh out my story more and hopefully get it closer to publication!
I’ve also been editing with a friend this month! A few weeks ago, I chatted back and forth with a friend over Google Docs as we edited her story, which was so much fun! I really enjoyed helping polish her story.
A Life Update:
Since the middle of February, I’ve been taking an astronomy class. While I wasn’t very good at figuring out where stars were oriented in the sky at the beginning, I’m now able to identify the constellations Ursa Major, Orion, the twins Castor and Pollux, and the planets Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and –of course– the Moon!
However, my body is still adjusting to the whole “new time zones” thing. So I get up half an hour later, which is a little unproductive in the mornings. But it’s okay, because I’ll get used to it eventually!
I’d love to know how your March is going – pop a comment below!

Yay! I love reading the monthly round-ups. They're something I look forward to at the end of every month.
As someone who has never listened to any sea shanties but wants to be introduced to them, do you have any recommendations? 💗
